Frequently asked questions
How can I tell it’s the rack that’s knocking?
It’s hard by ear: tie rod ends, tie rods and stabiliser links knock in a similar way. That is why we start with a check on the lift.
Can I drive with a knocking rack?
A slight knock is a reason to get it checked soon. If there is noticeable play or the steering starts to stick, it is better not to drive: it affects handling.
Is wheel alignment needed after a rack repair?
Yes, after removing the rack and disconnecting the tie rods, the wheel angles need to be set again.
