How can I tell it’s the alternator and not the battery?
You need to measure the voltage with the engine running and test the battery itself. That is the first thing we do.
Can I drive with the charging light on?
Not far: the car runs on battery charge, and when it is drained the engine stops. Drive straight to the workshop with unnecessary loads switched off.
Repair or replace the unit?
It depends on the fault: often replacing the worn parts is enough. If a repair isn’t worth it, we will say so and offer options.
